Lent Giving -- Keep the Van Running

Empower us to support over 20,000 people in the East Midlands between this Lent and next Lent by helping us to meet the annual costs of running our outreach deliveries van -- which all come up for renew simultaneously at Easter.

Sharewear works to alleviate clothing poverty on both a referral and outreach basis, through the distribution of public donations of pre-loved clothing and bedding as well as retailers' pre- and post-consumer waste to those most in need in the UK from our centres in Nottinghamshire.

Story

As we reach our 11th birthday, we have changed the lives of nearly 130,000 people since our first ever session in March 2014. For the last 6 years, over 60% of everyone we support each year is reached by our Outreach service.

Bulk orders for specific sizes and types of clothing are placed with our Outreach Co-Ordinator, and our dedicated volunteers collate the orders before they're delivered by our driver in our ageing van. Demand for this service increases each year, at the same time as our costs of running it rise. Over 30 organisations receive free of charge monthly or on-demand bulk outreach orders from us for their clients, who are unable to access our face-to-face referral sessions during our opening hours.

We need YOUR help to keep the wheels turning on our van -- whose annual costs each April amount to at least £1500. This doesn't include repairs or servicing, or any diesel costs. These core costs are disqualified from grant applications -- with charities being forced to go on meeting rising van legal costs from their limited funds.

Your support in helping us get vital clothes to over 20,000 people between this Lent and next will:

get children to school, including attending PE sessions and flourishing by finding their talents in extra-curricular clubs;

get adults into training and work and help them to keep their new jobs by being able to meet the specific dress code;

get people outside enjoying the 'free of charge' benefits of physical exercise and wellbeing activities in nature -- improving their mental and physical health;

get elderly or vulnerable hospital patients back on their feet through recovery and rehabilitation so they can get home and on with their lives -- also relieving pressure on bed space for Our NHS;

enable rehabilitating offenders to break free from cycles of criminality and integrate into society, contributing to their local communities;

bring safety, warmth and dignity to refugees and asylum seekers and their children so that, wherever they are moved to in their asylum claim in the UK, they have the basics for survival during the process.

All this, and more, is what your support for this campaign will help us to achieve.
