Khora Athens is an association that provides dignified access to asylum support, food, clothes, creative workshops and community space. We campaign for an end to borders, papers for all and community beyond nationality. Open since 2016, we remain committed to our core values: solidarity, autonomy, community, and the right of all to access the basic means to live in our city, Athens.
Khora is made of 4 units, each self-managed and running in the heart of Athens :
- Khora Kitchen, providing +600 free meals a week
- Khora Free Shop, providing free clothes & hygiene products to 220 families a week
- The Beehive, providing a creative space for women & LGBTQIA+ people
- KAST (Khora Asylum Support Team), providing legal information, advocacy, and service referrals for +15 refugees, migrants and asylum seekers a week
We are raising funds to keep the doors of the Free shop and KAST offices open in 2023. Maintaining these spaces allows us to provide consistent and reliable support to those experiencing instability, whether they are navigating the alienating and bureaucratic asylum procedure, denied papers and access to basic support, or struggling with the rising cost of living in Greece.
Having these spaces open is an opportunity to build long-term and embodied relationships, beyond the material support we provide. As the asylum process in Greece can be long and alienating for those seeking refuge, we aim to offer a place that can be a lasting point of reference and foster a consistent community.
What will the money be used for ?
10€ - Transportation fees for 6 people from the camps to Athens
50€ - Keep the doors of the Free Shop open for a full week
100€ - 5 days of interpretation, in Arabic or Farsi
250€ - Hygiene products for 250 families coming to the Free Shop
500€ - The KAST team being reachable in plural languages by phone all throughout the year
Khora Athens refuses funding from organizations that contribute to or cause the border crisis in order to maintain our independence. As a result, we rely on individual donations and volunteers to continue our work.
Our services are needed now more than ever as new hostile and faceless procedures are implemented, leaving many in distress and solitude.
Help us keep our doors open and bring solidarity to our spaces for the rest of the year by donating now!
