Story
More and more people are beginning to appreciate the positive impact that playing a sport or joining a community group can have on their mental wellbeing. Participating in sporting activities such as football have been proven to help ease symptoms of mental health problems such as depression and stress, offer an increase in self-esteem, and can also help reduce levels of anxiety. For some people, physical activity such as playing football can be just as powerful as medicine or therapy.
With one in four people in the UK affected by a mental health issue each year, the need for accessible, stigma-free support is more important than ever. Unfortunately, the ongoing stigma surrounding mental health continues to prevent many individuals from seeking the help they need. These barriers often lead to feelings of fear, shame, and isolation.
At Kick Start FC, we believe in tackling the mind through sport. By providing a safe, inclusive environment where individuals can engage in football, we offer more than just physical activity—we foster connection, build resilience, and empower participants with the tools to manage their mental wellbeing.
Early intervention is critical. Addressing mental health concerns at an early stage can significantly improve outcomes, reduce the risk of issues escalating, and enhance overall quality of life. Through timely support, practical coping strategies, and peer connection, our approach helps individuals strengthen their mental health, develop emotional and social skills, and reduce the likelihood of secondary challenges such as substance misuse.
