Story
20 of the members at The Fairlawns have decided to take the challenge on of running the Shenstone 10K for Kids' Village.
Kids’ Village is building the UK’s first holiday village exclusively offering free-of-charge respite holidays to critically ill children and their families.
The charity was founded by the Fletcher family, who experienced the reality of childhood critical illness first-hand when their daughter Sammie, now 31, was diagnosed with cancer aged nine.
Inspired by a visit to ‘Give Kids the World Village’ in Florida, Gary, Claire and Sam had a vision to create the UK version of their experience and the UK’s first respite holiday village.
The charity was registered in 2018 and a beautiful 30-acre woodland site in Wychnor, Staffordshire was donated by a local farming family.
After securing planning permission in 2023, an independent board of Trustees and small team was recruited in 2024 and a £5m capital appeal launched to fund the first Kids’ Village.
In November 2025, the £5m target was reached just over a year after launching. The first site name was also announced as ‘Charlotte’s Kids’ Village’ in memory of a little girl named Charlotte who sadly died of a brain tumour aged 11, with Charlotte’s family making a significant £2.9m donation to the capital appeal.
While the long-term vision for Kids’ Village is to create several respite holiday villages across the UK, our current focus is on building and opening Charlotte’s Kids’ Village in Staffordshire.
With construction now underway and a planned opening in 2027, we need your support to help us build, operate, and provide magical respite holidays for families at no cost to them.
Please take a moment to make a moment for critically ill children and their families and help us deliver a much needed UK first.
