Palestine Emergency: A third of the people in Palestine live below the poverty line.
The situation in Palestine is unbearable for many. Gaza has been described as an open-air prison. Conditions in Gaza were dire even before the recent escalations in conflict, with occupation, blockade and recurring conflict causing deep poverty and suffering.
The Gaza Strip is one of themost densely populated places on Earth. It has a population of approximately 2.1 million people and since 2007 it has been under a land, sea and air blockade imposed by Israel. Ongoing power shortages impact essential services like health, water and sanitation leaving people desperate.
Islamic Relief has been working in Palestine since 1997, and your Palestine charity donations can help deliver vital humanitarian and development assistance.
97% of Water in Gaza is unfit for human consumption.
The 2021 attacks in Gaza destroyed large part of Gaza's infrastructure where water and sanitation systems were destroyed leaving residents without safe access to water.
Water, sanitation and hygiene are amongst the top humanitarian priorities in the Gaza Strip as the water resources are under considerable stress and demands exceed supplies. With the 2021 attacks in Gaza, many people have been left displaced and access to water has become even more dire. Moreover, the spike in inflation means that prices of water has gone up, making it very expensive for Gazans to buy clean water.
The destruction of sewage systems also means that access to water has been more difficult
Water shortages across Gaza are putting livelihoods and the health of local communities, at risk. A lack of safe water can be especially deadly for children. In Gaza, due to power shortages, contaminated and high levels of salt in the water, over 90% of the water is unfit for human consumption, posing a huge health risk.
