Help Restore and Create Historic Kingston Community Wall Mosaics

We are trying to create a new community wall mosaic, & clean and restore existing ones across the Borough of Kingston upon Thames in Southwest London. The current mosaics were designed and installed by thousands of residents over the last 40 Years.

Since 1986, we've been upcycling and repairing goods for a more circular economy, making community art, and entertaining, teaching and supporting people to make changes to benefit the environment and empower themselves. This includes rescuing and redistributing surplus food for the vulnerable.

Story

Overview:

Over the last 40 years Save The World Club, with the local community, has designed, created and installed more than 300m2 of wall mosaics across the Borough of Kingston upon Thames led by our Chair, Des Kay, and Community Mosaic Artist, Kim Porrelli.

We're appealing to you to help fund a new mosaic and maintenance for already existing mosaics. To see our current mosaic map locations see: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=1CQTi--_ld4eku8YC5zASSuRFUYxKGrA&ll=51.38174991063876%2C-0.28473149999999503&z=12

These mosaics not only brighten the town, but also offer the additional bonus of the participants, offering a lasting legacy for the contributors who are able to highlight their piece of the work - whether it’s a few tiles or a whole section, to their future children or grandchildren.

To this end, our charity has already raised £1,250 from five Town Centre ward councillors. With another £5,000 and the energy of local people, we can restore these award winning art works made from upcycled glass and ceramic mosaic tiles with mirror.

The New Mosaic:

We will consult with the entire community to design and install a new wall mosaic celebrating the 1,100 year heritage (in 2025) of Kingston since the crowning of the first king of England with Community Mosaic artist Kim Porrelli.

Cleaning:

Your donation will pay towards cleaning materials, brushes, gloves, grouting, cement, travel, marketing, posters, leaflets, social media and workshops in schools, community centres and on the street to engage with the public.

Benefits:

Our work directly engages with the most vulnerable or 'lost' and is proven to reduce tagging, graffiti, anti social behaviour, loneliness, isolation, depression and mental health challenges.

It brings all sections of the community together, brightens and beatifies our neighbourhoods and leaves a lasting visual legacy for the future.

Come and be a part of it and thank you for any help you can give us, from everyone at www.savetheworldclub.org
