Kitten Lifeline Appeal: Giving vulnerable kittens the best possible start in life
Every year, kitten season brings some of the smallest and most vulnerable animals into our care.
While many kittens arrive or are born with us healthy, others aren't so lucky. We regularly care for kittens who have been orphaned, rejected by their mother, born prematurely, or become unwell during their earliest days of life.
For these kittens, the first few weeks can be critical.
Unlike adult cats, newborn kittens cannot regulate their own body temperature. If they become cold, they struggle to feed, gain weight, and grow. Without specialist support, their chances of survival can be significantly reduced.
That's why we're launching our Kitten Lifeline Appeal, with a goal of raising £1,500 for specialist kitten care equipment.
As an independent local charity, RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire receives no automatic funding from the national sources. The majority of the money needed to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals comes directly from the generosity of our local community.
With your help, we can be ready when the next emergency call comes in.
Our Most Important Goal: A Specialist Incubator
Main Incubator - £999.95
Research has shown that providing vulnerable kittens with consistent warmth helps them use their energy for growth rather than simply trying to stay warm. Incubators also provide controlled humidity, supporting respiratory health and creating a safer environment for kittens who are sick, premature, or being hand-reared.
Our next goal is: Portable Incubator - £284.99
This smaller incubator would allow us to:
- Support kittens in foster homes
- Keep kittens warm during transport
- Provide emergency backup when multiple litters need help at the same time
The Small Items That Make A Big Difference
Specialist equipment isn't just about incubators; there are quite a few smaller items we need to support our youngest residents.
Miracle Nipples
These specially designed feeding teats help newborn kittens feed more naturally and safely, especially those who have lost their mother.
Bottle Warmer & Milk Frother
Hand-reared kittens need frequent feeds throughout the day and night. These items help us prepare milk safely and consistently, reducing lumps that can block feeding teats.
Steriliser
Young kittens have fragile immune systems. Keeping feeding equipment clean and sterile helps reduce the risk of illness and infection.
Digital Scales
When caring for newborn kittens, even a few grams can tell us whether a kitten is thriving or struggling. Accurate daily weighing helps us monitor growth, identify problems early, and adapt feeding plans where necessary.
Snuggle Kitty
Orphaned kittens can become stressed when separated from their mother and littermates. The Snuggle Kitty contains a comforting heartbeat that mimics the feeling of being close to mum, helping reduce anxiety and provide reassurance.
Air Filters, Distilled Water & Cleaning Supplies
These may not be glamorous, but they're essential for keeping incubators clean, safe, and functioning properly for every kitten that needs them.
How You Can Help
Every donation, no matter the size, will help us move closer to our £1,500 goal.
Together, we can provide the specialist equipment needed to care for vulnerable kittens when they need us most.
And if we exceed our target, any additional funds will be used to support the ongoing care of vulnerable kittens and other animals at our centre. If we do not reach our target, funds raised will be used to purchase as many of the listed items as possible and practical. Any remaining funds will support the ongoing care of the animals at our centre.
Thank you for helping us give tiny paws the best possible start in life. ❤️🐾
