Story
Established in 1986, KKPA is a non-profit charity run by kidney patient volunteers providing financial support, specialist advice, guidance and access to further information and resources for kidney patients in Kent.
We started our food box project at the beginning of the pandemic in April 2020. Back then the Government offered to deliver a weekly food box to everyone who was shielding but unfortunately the food boxes did not cater for those on a restricted renal diet so we decided to deliver our own renal diet-friendly food boxes.
Our aim was to provide fresh food to our most vulnerable patients who were having to shield and at the same time collect any items they could not eat from their Government food box and take them to a food bank. Sometimes we were able to directly swap items if the food bank had anything suitable.
Thanks to funding, a year later and we are continuing the project. Due to the pandemic a lot of our patients have lost their jobs and we are seeing an increase in food poverty within the Renal Community. We have therefore decided to run our food box project for as long as is necessary, providing we have the funds available to continue this service.
Without the generosity of those who have donated to our food box campaign, we would be unable to continue with the project & your support means everything to the KKPA and is much appreciated by all recipients. A smile has been brought to many faces during these difficult times thanks to kind people like you, so thank you!
