A group of our Muskorteers from Sheffield led by Faisal Hussain are hiking through the jungle covered mountains of Columbia to help raise awareness and funds to sustain the orphan children at KORT.

They have already began their 8 day adventure today with a drive through the lush Madellin valley and into Latin America's most exciting cities.

Their trip will include:

- Heading into the wilderness; into the Samana Watershed, a tropical paradise that few foreign eyes have ever seen.

- Push through the humid, jungle-covered mountains as they hike into the valley of the Rio Verde of Los Henados. They will follow a trail and learn about the abundance of plants traditionally used in local culture and medicine.

- Navigate through a chunk of pristine rain forest and on to the Rio Verde where a raft will be waiting for them. After a refreshing swim in the cool emerald waters,they will set off along the wild Samana River.

- Return to the Rio Samana, a power-house of a river cloaked in dense jungle and constricted between low granite walls, stopping to explore the secluded beaches and swim in hidden waterfalls. Toucans fly overhead, while clouds of butterflies hang in the air.

- Brace themselves for whitewater as they tackle some class 4 rapids, passing prospectors panning for gold on the calmer stretches.

- Pass through the Grand Gorge and descend some more class 4+ rapids as they cross through a rain forest teeming with life and into a beautiful silver-blue rock canyon.

- Witness the rare birds, butterflies, and exotic plants that live in this lowland forest and camp close to a secluded lagoon and natural pool.

- Paddle to the village of Narices and watch as cascading waterfalls drop from high mountain peaks into blue swimming pools only accessible from the river.

KORT is a UK registered charity (reg no 1113836) that provides safe and secure accommodation, fresh meals, brand new unworn clothing, medical care and education at their purpose built home for orphans; the KORT Educational Complex in Akhtarabad, Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.

KORT is already home to hundreds of orphan children with the capacity for 1000 orphan children and at their peak will provide free education to 1500 orphans and children from poor & needy families.
