We exist to help save endangered species, in particular black and white rhinos, orphaned by the poaching epidemic which is threatening their extinction in South Africa. Part of this aim is achieved by working to develop the communities local to the sanctuary in Mpumalanga province, South Africa.

THE GREAT RHINO WALK UK 2026

220 MILES FOR THE RHINOS

WALK THE KRUGER. TOGETHER.

OUR GOAL: 220 MILES

16–22 SEPTEMBER 2026

FINISHING ON WORLD RHINO DAY

Everyone is welcome to take part. You don't need to be a Care for Wild UK member.

On 22 September 2026, people around the world will come together to mark World Rhino Day, celebrating these incredible animals and raising awareness of the threats they face.

This year, we want to make sure that Care for Wild's rhinos in South Africa know that people here in the UK are standing alongside them too.

So we have created The Great Rhino Walk UK 2026.

OUR CHALLENGE

The Kruger National Park stretches approximately 220 miles from north to south.

It is also where many of the orphaned rhinos who eventually find safety at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in South Africa begin their journey.

So, rather than asking one person to walk 220 miles, we're asking our UK community to do it together.

Our goal is simple:

220 MILES. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE VERY SPECIAL CAUSE.

Between 16 and 22 September, you can walk or run whatever distance you are able to.

It might be 2 miles.

It might be 5 miles.

It might be 10 miles.

It might be more.

Every single mile counts.

Wherever you are in the UK, your miles will become part of our virtual journey through the Kruger.

And on 22 September, World Rhino Day, we want to be able to say:

WE WALKED 220 MILES FOR THE RHINOS!

HOW CAN I TAKE PART?

It's really simple.

1. Choose your distance.

Decide how far you would like to walk or run between 16 and 22 September.

2. Get sponsored.

Ask your family, friends, colleagues or anyone else who would like to support you to sponsor your challenge.

3. Add your fundraising to this JustGiving campaign.

Every donation will help support the vital work of Care for Wild and the rescued rhinos in their care.

4. Let us know you've taken part.

We want to celebrate everyone who contributes to our 220-mile journey.

Please send us a photograph of you walking or running, together with:

1. Your first name

2. Your town or city

3. The distance you have completed

You can send your photo via WhatsApp to 0758 4010023 or by Facebook Messenger.

We'll bring everyone's miles and photographs together and share our progress throughout the challenge.

WHY 220 MILES?

Every orphaned rhino has a story.

Many of the young rhinos cared for by Care for Wild have lost their mothers as a result of poaching. They are rescued, rehabilitated and given the care they need to survive, with the ultimate aim of giving them the chance of living the life every wild rhino should.

By virtually walking the length of the Kruger, we want to create a small connection between our community here in the UK and the rhinos thousands of miles away in South Africa.

We can't all travel to Africa to help.

But we can walk.

We can raise money.

And we can show our support.

FROM THE UK TO SOUTH AFRICA

Whether you walk two miles around your local park or take on a much bigger challenge, your miles matter.

Because 220 miles sounds a long way for one person.

But when we all do our bit...

TOGETHER, WE CAN WALK THE KRUGER.

Please join us, raise some sponsorship and help us make World Rhino Day 2026 a special one for the rhinos of Care for Wild.

Thank you for walking with us.
