The Bowel Movement wants every young adult faced with bowel cancer to have the best possible chance of survival. We aim to achieve this by increasing knowledge and awareness of the common signs and symptoms and empowering individuals to seek medical advice as early as possible.

Story

The Bowel Movement was founded in 2021 by Abigail Morris, her mum, Josephine and her sister Stephanie. The Bowel Movement began back in 2018 after Benjamin Millard was diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer at the age of just 33. This came as a complete shock, especially considering Benj was so young, fit and healthy- three words you do not typically associate with Bowel Cancer. Benj had a 5cm tumour which had spread significantly by the time it was discovered, and sadly he was immediately placed on palliative treatment. After only 7 months of gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy, numerous procedures and a bowel resection, tragically Benj’s kidneys began to fail and he entered Dorothy House Hospice, Nr Bath, where he spent his final days surrounded by his family and close friends. Benj died on 15th April 2019, just 2 weeks before his 34th Birthday.
