Story
A few weeks ago, we were heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful Bob. Anybody who came to Lambourne End and visited the farm will have met Bob and his gentle charm and love of people. His passing has left a hole at the Centre and we know that our other horse Rosie is missing her best friend.
Pony and Cart rides are one of our most popular activities, enjoyed by over 1200 people a year. It is a wheelchair-accessible activity and provides huge benefits for those who try it. The route covers key site locations including parts of the nature trail, open fields, farm animals and adventurous activities. For people with physical mobility difficulties, this is an excellent way to see the Centre.
Participants experience the open air as our horses speed up and feel the breeze against their skin for a superb sensory experience. Rides offer opportunities to challenge oneself, gain a sense of achievement and build confidence. Many young people are scared of horses/large animals and these sessions help alleviate them as they got to know Bob or Rosie.
Beyond the ride, young people learn about grooming too. Bob was always patient and gentle as people learn to be compassionate and a calming presence. We’ve seen young people take this spark and follow a path in animal care.
Bob helped thousands of young people throughout his life. We are now in need of another horse to take the mantle and help thousands more.
