Story
Happy 4th birthday to LBCUK! This year has been an incredible one for Lobular Breast Cancer UK and our work — and it’s only been possible thanks to your support. Together, we’ve made real strides in raising knowledge and understanding, building connections, and helping to push research forward.
This year, we’ve reached over 22,000 people through our website and nearly 44,000 through our social media, increasing knowledge about Lobular Breast Cancer, and supported hundreds of individuals. We proudly championed the One Cancer Voice campaign, built a new partnership with the Breast Care team at Barts Hospital to advance Lobular research, and hosted in-person and online Lobular Meet Ups in partnership with Future Dreams to connect and support patients. We took the conversation to the Houses of Parliament, shared our research findings and led a session on the psychological impacts of a Lobular diagnosis at the International Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Symposium, and launched a GP Working Group to strengthen knowledge of the disease across UK GP practices. Writer and LBCUK Patron, Josie Lloyd offered a free journalling workshop for anyone experiencing a Lobular diagnosis, and we reached thousands of people through features on BBC Radio 5 Live, Glamour magazine, and the Mail on Sunday Health pages — spreading the message that Lobular Breast Cancer is a distinct disease and needs to be treated as such.
We’ve also been busy bringing people together. Through the UK Lobular Breast Cancer Network, we now have more than 30 healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient advocates working collectively to drive change. We hosted a Lobular Research Partnership Day with The Christie, Manchester Breast Centre, and the University of Manchester — sparking new ideas and understanding between patients, clinicians and researchers.
Our research involvement continues to grow as we partnered on six new Lobular research applications submitted this year, collaborated on three Lobular studies, worked to increase inclusion of Lobular patients in wider breast cancer trials, and co-authored on two published international Lobular research papers.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our fundraisers and supporters.
But we are only a small team ... with BIG ambitions! Please donate today to celebrate our 4th birthday and to help us to achieve our goals - a world where, working together we can all live well.
