Thank you for visiting Leicester Community First Responders' (LCFR) Just Giving page.
Our charity is built from a passionate team of volunteers, trained by the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), to attend and assist medical emergencies. We therefore fundraise to provide medical equipment, kit bags, uniforms, torches and more.
This year, Leicester CFRs (and our supporters) are participating in the Run Leicester Festival with intentions to gather funds to continue to save lives.
Some of us are training to run the half marathon or the 10k, while some of us will be training you to learn CPR and AED use. This will take place at our gazebo at the festival on Sunday 26th October, 2025. Come along and learn how to save a life.
Will you help?
Below is some more information about us, so you know your donations will support the people of Leicester and Leicestershire during times of distress and medical emergencies.
Our team of responders are volunteers from diverse backgrounds. Different ages, different careers and different personalities, resulting in patient-centred and compassionate care.
We are trained as Level 2 CFRs with an opportunity to progress to Level 3, allowing us to respond to a wider range of jobs. These can include paediatric patients, falls and delivering entonox for pain relief (widely known as laughing gas).
We assist EMAS by going out to 999 and NHS 111 calls on their behalf. Despatched just like an ambulance from the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), CFRs can get to patients quickly as we are based in the community.
This means we can begin effective life-saving medical interventions for situations such as cardiac arrests, major traumas and life threatening emergencies. We can also assist with minor injuries and falls, to help offload the pressure on the ambulance service.
As we are volunteers, we can book on duty in our own time and at flexible hours. Many of us have full time jobs and family commitments, meaning we must factor our time effectively.
We can go on shift at any time of the day, at any time of the week - as the ambulance 999 and NHS 111 services operate 24/7.
We book on for a minimum of 16 hours per month, some of us do more. This does not include monthly training, first aid events or fundraisers.
Although named 'Leicester CFR', we can be despatched to an array of calls. This includes Leicestershire and surrounding areas. CFRs were originally trained to assist ambulance services in rural areas, where wait times are considerably higher due to the distance an ambulance must travel from the city stations.
To see the reasons behind why some of us give up our free time to volunteer for EMAS, please see the fundraising links below.
Feel free to give whatever you can. Turn up at the festival. Support us, support our supporters. Learn what to do if someone you know loses consciousness and stops breathing. Donate to our cause. Make a difference. Be the change.
We look forward to seeing you.
Thank you,
Leicester Community First Responders
