Story
Back in 1893, the philanthropist Lord Strathcona donated a huge sum to ensure a community hospital was built in his home town of Forres. Over the years the hospital was a vital source of health care for the community, and for those recovering from action in the the two World Wars. The advent of the NHS led to Leanchoil being subsumed into the health service until 2018, when it was declared surplus to requirements.
Today, the entire site has been acquired by the Leanchoil Trust on behalf of the community. The plans for the site include a 41-unit supported housing development with partners Hanover Scotland, consulting rooms for medical professionals, a rehabilitation gym, group meeting rooms and a café. More information, history and plans are available on our website www.leanchoiltrust.org
Our focus now is fundraising. We have a big target to reach, but support in any fashion is vital to see this trailblazing project come to fruition. It is the biggest project of its size in the area, and will have a huge impact on the community's health and wellbeing - at all stages of life.
