Time is running out for one of Buckinghamshire’s most irreplaceable natural treasures. Nestled in the heart of the Chilterns, Leather Lane is an ancient holloway unlike any other—a living corridor shaped over centuries, where wildlife still clings to a fragile sanctuary now under increasing pressure.

Today, Leather Lane is home to one of the UK’s rarest bats, the Barbastelle, along with owls, butterflies, birds, insects and countless other forms of wildlife that depend on this special landscape.

Our charity was created by local people with a shared determination to protect Leather Lane. Working together with our community, we helped secure vital environmental protections during the construction of HS2, including the Chilterns’ only dedicated Green Bridge for wildlife.

But our work didn’t end there.

Today, we are focused on the long-term conservation and restoration of Leather Lane. We fund ecological surveys, monitor wildlife, restore habitats, organise educational bat walks and work with experts to ensure this unique landscape continues to flourish.
