Empower Creative Voices: DJ, Music Production & Podcast Workshops for Neurodiverse Young People

Every young person deserves a chance to express themselves, to find their voice, and to shine. For neurodiverse youth—those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences—traditional learning spaces can feel restrictive, overwhelming, or simply not designed for their unique strengths. That’s why we’re launching an inclusive series of creative music workshops, and we need your help to make it happen!

What We’re Doing
– DJ Masterclasses: Guided sessions where participants learn beat-matching, mixing techniques, and cultivate stage confidence.
– Music Production Labs: Hands-on workshops using industry-standard digital audio workstations, teaching arranging, sampling, and basic sound design.
– Podcast Storytelling Clinics: From scriptwriting to recording and editing, empowering young people to share their stories, passions, and experiences through podcasting.

Each workshop is carefully tailored to accommodate sensory needs, communication styles, and learning preferences—leveraging visual aids, flexible pacing, and small group support to ensure everyone can thrive.

Why It Matters -
Creative expression isn’t just fun; it builds self-esteem, fosters social connection, and strengthens cognitive skills like focus, problem-solving, and collaboration. For neurodiverse young people, these workshops can be life-changing:

* Boosting Confidence: Mastering new tools and performing for peers helps dismantle barriers of self-doubt.

* Building Community: Shared musical projects create lasting friendships and peer support networks.

* Career Pathways: DJing, music production, and podcasting are growing industries—early exposure can spark future careers.

How Your Donation Helps

* £35 provides an hour of 121 tuition with a specialist music educator.

* £50 covers an hour of dedicated tuition and also covers the cost of an apprentice studio assistant (Young person on London living wage) learning on the job, gaining valuable experience.

* £150 provides a three hour group session with state of the art studio equipment.

* £300 can provide up to 10 sessions (one term) of workshops for an individual. Working on a project start to finish and coming up with an end product to take away / put on their CV.

Your gift ensures we can supply relevant equipment, pay specialist tutors, and offer bursary places for families facing financial hardship.

Join Us in Amplifying Neurodiverse Talent!
By donating today, you’re not just supporting workshops—you’re giving young people the tools to find their unique rhythm, share their stories, and step into the spotlight. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us open doors and create a brighter, more inclusive creative community.

Thank you for believing in the power of music, storytelling, and neurodiversity. Let’s spin the decks, lay down tracks, and record voices that deserve to be heard!

Background -

After initial funding from the lottery in January 2024 Grooveschool has been running specific weekly sessions for neurodivergent young adults every Monday during term-time from our base in Brixton. Creatives have come from the local Autism Voice community group and Orchard Hill College.

From this programme we have success stories that include a young woman writing and performing and producing her own podcast show and a young MC who's heart was set on becoming a rapper, now able to express himself and lay down lyrics and attune them with the grooves he's producing.

In regards to local and national government funding being decimated we are running this campaign so that we can continue the success we've been having and to reach a wider audience. For example, not everyone can attend the unit and so we are looking to fund a programme in conjunction with Heron Academy in Herne Hill.

As you may well be aware the charity sector is undergoing enormous challenges with regards to funding.

Every organisation is asking existing donors to provide more whilst seeking new donors to help. We are no different.

Well....

apart from that we can put on a weekend of live streams for your viewing and dancing pleasure, as we present a selection of our pupils and tutors who DJ.

So we are starting this weekend with 3 evenings of Live streams

DJs playing this weekend as we launch this fundraising campaign are:

Friday 25th April - Sunday Driver, Amelia Gane, SV

Saturday 26th April - Eddie Quinlan and Max Cardozi, Kira Kush, Richie Littler

Sunday 27th - Theo BK, Finessa, Michelle K and Michelle Hardiman
