LEWISHAM FOODBANK - new warehouse appeal

Organised by Lewisham Foodbank

Lewisham Foodbank is one of the busiest in the UK, feeding 650+ people per week. We have moved from SE23 to 353H Bromley Rd SE6 2RP. We love the new space but we urgently need to to build additional storage.

Story

Lewisham Foodbank was born in 2012. Since then we have fed over 100,000 people.

Our clients are referred by over 400 agencies in the borough, and are provided with a food parcel containing fresh & canned fruit & veg; canned meat & fish; milk, juice, pasta, rice, breakfast cereal, tea/coffee, treats, biscuits and, subject to availability, we give dog/cat food, sanitary items, nappies, oil, vegan/Halal choices and cleaning products.

All of our stock is donated by people in the community, either by practical donations or via donors who give financially, enabling us to purchase items we most need at wholesale prices.

We have been in our current warehouse since 2012 and we have been given notice to move sometime during autumn 2023. Our new location has a hall which is not big enough for us to be able to continue to meet the current demand for food. Thankfully there is space in the grounds to build at least one structure providing extra essential storage space.

Without this additional building it will be impossible to continue to meet the needs of our clients.

This appeal will help fund the new space(s), and contribute towards kitting out the existing building with racking and shelving, and fund the cost of carrying out small structural changes easing access to the building and improving health and safety for our volunteers and staff.
