Story

As one of the Official Charities for the British & Irish Lions, and with Warren Gatlands Lions ready to write the first chapter of their 2021 Lions Tour journey on home soil for the Vodafone Lions 1888 Cup against Japan the My Names Doddie Foundation wanted to create our own challenge to celebrate the Lions coming to town.

The atmosphere, the history, the opportunity: Rugby occasions dont get much bigger than this and Murrayfield will be the perfect venue to see all the action unfold!

Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugbys most recognisable personalities. Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge. In June 2017 Doddie revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease. In under 3 years the foundation has committed over £5m to MND research. Doddie's story has touched the rugby world. And to have done it with a smile never far from his lips, and humour punctuating every call to action, Doddie does inspire.

This amazing challenge, taking place on 25 June 2021, will see the trekkers set off at 8am, after bacon butties and porridge at Doddies farm, take part in a 35-mile challenging trek across the spectacular borders from Galashiels to BT Murrayfield arriving the night before the game to deliver the match ball. The trekkers will experience heather-clad rolling hills, miles of forests and woodland, lochs and rivers, the area is criss-crossed by a multitude of fantastic routes, it will be a journey to remember.
