Ahoy! On Sunday, 17 May 2026, a fearless crew of Literacy Pirates will set sail through the vibrant streets of Hackney to conquer the Hackney Half Marathon. But we’re not just running, we’re on a mission to empower young minds and tackle educational inequality head-on.

Why We Run

At Literacy Pirates, we believe in the power of stories to change lives. Our after-school programme supports children aged 9-13 who are falling behind in class, helping them develop literacy, confidence, and perseverance. Through one-to-one attention in a creative, pirate-themed environment, we guide these young learners on their journey to becoming published authors, journalists, and film stars.
