Help Grow Bean Fest 2027
Bringing People Together Through Food
What if one simple ingredient could help tackle food insecurity, support healthier diets, celebrate cultural diversity and bring communities together?
That's the idea behind Bean Fest.
Bean Fest is a community-led initiative from Feeding Liverpool, using the humble bean as a starting point for conversations about good food, sustainability, health, culture and community. What began as a small grassroots festival has already shown how food can connect people across generations, neighbourhoods and cultures.
Now we want to build on that success and ensure Bean Fest continues to grow in 2027 and beyond.
Why Beans?
Beans are nutritious, affordable, versatile and sustainable. They're part of food traditions from all over the world and are already a staple ingredient in many Liverpool households.
At a time when many families are facing rising costs, beans offer an accessible way to prepare healthy meals without stretching household budgets. Yet many people lack the knowledge, confidence or inspiration to make the most of them.
Bean Fest aims to change that.
Through community activities, shared experiences and practical food education, we want to help more people discover the benefits of beans while creating opportunities to connect through food.
Building on a Successful Beginning
The first Bean Fest was delivered with a small grant and a huge amount of community goodwill.
People came together to share food, learn new skills, explore growing and cooking, and celebrate the many ways beans feature in cultures across Liverpool. The response showed there is real enthusiasm for a festival that combines food, creativity, learning and community action.
But the festival also relied heavily on volunteer time, donated resources and unpaid labour.
To make Bean Fest sustainable, we need to invest in the people and organisations who make it happen.

Why This Matters
Feeding Liverpool works alongside communities across a city where many households continue to face food insecurity and financial hardship.
We believe everyone should have access not only to food, but also to the knowledge, confidence and opportunities that make healthy choices easier.
Bean Fest is one way of making that happen: creating welcoming spaces where people can share stories, learn from one another, celebrate different food traditions and explore practical ways to eat well for less.
