Nishkam's Fund a FibroScan to Catch Liver Disease Early

Organised by NishkamSWAT

We’re raising £100,000 to fund a FibroScan machine through Nishkam SWAT’s Liver Health Project. This simple, non-invasive scan helps detect signs of liver damage early and will be used to provide free liver health checks in the community.

Story

Help Us Raise £100,000 for a Life-Saving Liver Health Screening Machine

We’re raising £100,000 to fund a FibroScan machine through Nishkam SWAT’s Liver Health Project. This simple, non-invasive scan helps detect signs of liver damage early and will be used to provide free liver health checks in the community.

Why This Matters

• According to the UK Health Security Agency, liver disease has become the leading cause of death among individuals aged 35 to 49 in the UK.

• 90% of liver disease is preventable.

• Liver disease often has no symptoms until serious damage has occurred.

• Only 15% of people with liver cancer survive five years after diagnosis.

• Early screening can change lives and offer people the chance to act before it’s too late.

What We're Raising Money For

We’re raising £100,000 to fund a FibroScan machine for use in the community, as part of Nishkam SWAT’s Liver Health Project. A FibroScan is a non-invasive tool that assesses liver stiffness and fat levels which are important indicators of potential liver damage. The scan is quick, painless, and takes just ten minutes. Results are available straight away.

Early intervention allows people to make lifestyle changes, seek medical advice, and avoid further liver damage.

In Memory of My Dad

This campaign is deeply personal.

My father, Amrik Singh Rai, passed away in June 2024 from advanced liver cancer. His diagnosis came late, and treatment options were limited. After his passing, I spent time researching liver disease, how it develops, and what tools exist to catch it earlier. That’s when I discovered the role of quick and painless screening tools like FibroScan.

Through this campaign, I want to raise awareness and help prevent other families from going through what we did.

What This Campaign Will Do

Your donations will help us:

• Purchase a FibroScan machine

• Run FREE screening clinics

• Reach communities that might not have easy access to health checks

• Raise awareness about liver health and risk factors

• Encourage early lifestyle changes and follow-up care for those at risk

The screenings will take place in community spaces such as places of worship, community centres, and events delivered through Nishkam SWAT’s established outreach work.

What to Expect from a Liver Health Screening

The process is simple and reassuring:

1. You’ll be asked to fast for a few hours beforehand

2. A short questionnaire will be completed to understand your liver health risks

3. A trained professional will perform a quick FibroScan on your liver

4. You’ll receive your results straight away

5. If needed, we’ll guide you on next steps with your GP or specialist

There are no needles, no blood tests, no recovery time, just a few minutes that could change a life.

How You Can Help

Please donate to support the Amrik Singh Rai Liver Screening Campaign. Every pound goes toward purchasing the FibroScan machine and helping Nishkam SWAT deliver free liver health screenings to those who need it most.

Together, we can raise awareness, empower early action, and honour my dad’s memory by making a difference in other people’s lives.

Thank you for your support.
