Story
In her 60's, Linda climbed Everest, Kilimanjaro, Machu Pichu, took up boxing and ran three London Marathons. In her own words "some sort of extreme mid life crisis". At age 71 she began training to swim the English Channel as part of a record attempt to be the oldest team to complete this dangerous challenge. However, in April 2021 her training came to a halt when she was diagnosed with a stage 4 ovarian cancer that was incurable and was given a prognosis of 12-18 months survival. You might expect someone to fall apart with such news, not Linda. This indomitable Yorkshire woman decided her life was not going to be over yet and set about living her best life with the support of family and friends. Five years on, she is still going strong despite the brutality of a weekly chemotherapy regime that leaves her breathless for most of the week.
It was her experiences in the chemotherapy unit that led to her setting up Living Like Linda, a charity that is helping people like her but who don't necessarily have that same strong support network or who don't have the financial resources to live a best life. Linda spoke to many people who would love to have a day out at the races or see a west end show or simply walk around the lake with her and have coffee.
Linda saw that she could make a difference and so set out to provide the means and opportunities for people with cancer undergoing harsh chemotherapy treatments.
Living Like Linda does mean living the best life you can. She has already inspired so many people, our new campaign aims to help many more across the UK.
