Story
Every summer since 1947 Llangollen has staged one of the worlds most inspirational cultural festivals. It began with a vision that the ancient Welsh eisteddfod tradition of cultural festivals could provide a means of healing the wounds of the Second World War, and help to promote lasting peace.
In 1955, a young Luciano Pavarotti sang in the choir from his home town of Modena, conducted by his father. The choir won first prize in the Male voice choir competition. Now, each year around 4,000 performers and as many as 50,000 visitors converge on the small Welsh town and its International Pavilion; to sing and dance in a unique combination of competition, performance, and international peace and friendship.
This year our Intermediate Voices and Senior Voices have been shortlisted to compete in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Wednesday, 5 July 2023. Our choirs will be completing against some of the most prestigious choirs from around the world and our preparations have already began!
