Marches Family Network provide high quality, accessible short breaks for children and young adults with disabilities in Herefordshire. We have a team of 6 running the London Landmarks Half Marathon, the only half marathon that runs through both the City of London and the City of Westminster on closed roads.
The team are aiming to raise £4,500 - the cost of a session for Marches Family Network to run.
Lucas had his first seizure when he was just 6 years old. Since then, he has received a diagnosis of epilepsy, a complex learning disability, and most recently, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome.
Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome is a very rare, complex and severe form of epilepsy, which results in Lucas suffering from multiple different types of seizures multiple times a day. Unfortunately, medication has not been able to control Lucas’s seizures, and he requires constant care to ensure his safety.
It doesn't matter how complex a young person is, the team @ MFN can accommodate and look after them.
Because of his medical needs and learning disability, Lucas is unable to access mainstream activities. His family turned to Marches Family Network 6 years ago, for respite and to give Lucas a chance to take part in a wide range of activities.
Lucas enjoys coming to sessions, and meeting up with his friends. One of his favourite activities recently has been the chance to hold snakes during an animal encounter. His family are able to relax, knowing that he is safe and well cared for, with the dedicated youth team at Marches Family Network having undertaken specialist epilepsy training. It gives his parents the chance to go to work during the school holidays, and spend some much needed time together to rest during the weekends.
The sessions that Lucas attends at Marches Family Network do not receive any Local Authority funding. However, without these sessions, Lucas’s family, and many others, would be left with no respite. By donating today, you can ensure that these vital activity sessions can continue for families such as Lucas's.
