Story

Introducing Llanelli Mind

Llanelli Mind is a registered charity in England and Wales and has provided services to local people since 1986 and is affiliated to Mind nationally. We deliver services locally and more widely across the county of Carmarthenshire, providing advice and support to those experiencing mental ill health, their carers and families. We campaign and seek to influence the provision of mental health and social care services both locally and nationally.

Our mission is to provide appropriate and timely support for those with mental ill health, their carers, and their families.

Our vision is for all people suffering mental ill health to receive the support they need to recover and live a fulfilled life. We also want to see more positive awareness of mental ill health, and for everyone to be able to recognise the signs of their own mental health needs. The aim of the services we provide is to ensure that no service user, family or friend struggles alone.

Lets Move for Llanelli Mind (#LM4LM)

As we approach May, which hosts Mental Health Awareness Week (15th to 21st May 2023), we are looking at fundraising to further expand our services across Llanelli and Carmarthenshire, including our Welcome Centre (drop in day services), Befriending schemes, EVOLVE (our Children and Young Peoples project), our Twilight Sanctuary, and our Counselling and Therapeutic services amongst others.

There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. For example, it can help with:

better sleep by making you feel more tired at the end of the day

happier moods physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy

managing stress, anxiety or intrusive and racing thoughts doing something physical releases cortisol which helps us manage stress. Being physically active also gives your brain something to focus on and can be a positive coping strategy for difficult times

As a result, we are launching our Lets Move for Llanelli Mind fundraising challenges (LM4LM) throughout 2023, starting with our personal staff fundraiser of cycling (in the office) the length of the UK from John O'Groats to Lands End; however, we are asking and encouraging local people to join us in the #LM4LM fundraising campaign throughout 2023.
