Street Action is a UK charities who supports the work of New Generation in Burundi.
New Generation emerged from the civil war that swept Burundi between 1993-2005. They continue to respond to the effects of years of civil war amongst the young generations on the streets: engaging them through outreach, back to school and re-integration support and entrepreneurship training for older boys and young women. They work to enable children and young people from the streets to reach their full potential and become leaders of a new Burundi.
In 2018 we raised funds to purchase a plot of land in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, which is now the permanent home of New Generation. Alongside helping to develop their programmes, our focus for 2025/26 is to help them raise the money needed to complete building on this site.
Some of this money is being kindly donated by individual and corporate donors, but as a wider team of supporters, we are going to cycle/run/walk/swim the 10,000 km between London and Bujumbura, and raise money for New Generation as we do!
The #London2Buja campaign has already seen a Ride-a-thon in Richmond Park (2019), the Street Child Cycle Challenge through north Wales (2019), the Lake District (2021) and along the south coast of England (2023) as well as many other individual rides, runs, swims and walks.
And many more events are planned for the next couple of years. In June 2025, the Street Child Cycle Challenge rides again and we will soon be setting the date for a an exciting, bigger and bolder ride in 2026 or 2027 – to celebrate the Street Action’s 20th birthday!
