Each of these 11 gorgeous dogs has their own individual and unique story to tell. Here they are (in brief!)
Toby was rescued in the UK, after his owner passed away and the family didn't want him. He needed lifesaving medication for his heart and was very overweight when he was rescued. Initially he was fostered by a lovely lady called Catherine, who enabled him to have a place of sanctuary while we sought a long term solution.
Now he lives a great life with Natalie and her family in Worcester and the Cardisure treatment that Amicii has provided is helping to manage his heart condition. Toby needs this lifesaving medication every day to stay healthy.
Timmy was rescued in the UK by Scott and Steph when his very elderly family could no longer care for him. He has multiple health problems and he is a very old man indeed! He is blind, has a skin condition and is in the early stages of dementia so he has a lot of medication every month which Amicii needs to provide. He now lives with Marta and her two girls in Birmingham. Marta does everything she possibly can to provide Timmy with the best quality of life in his old age.
Bella originally came from Romania where she had lived in a shelter for over 3 years. Her amazing sponsor, Dwynwen, asked us to help her. Bella came to the UK in 2025 and went into an amazing short term foster home in Worcestershire while we sorted out all her medical needs. Thank you to Ange and her family for helping her with all of that. Bella had a lot of problems with her bladder and needed scans and antibiotics, but this has stabilised now. Bella suffers from mild incontinence now and is given Incurin every day to help and is on a special diet. She is now in a long term foster home with Ash and his family in Bristol and is absolutely blossoming with their love and care.
Jet came to the UK from Romania and was placed in a home with Kerris and her partner in South Wales. She was diagnosed with heartworm and we have been trying to help her recover from this for over a year. It continues to be a real struggle, although Jet is mostly very well and getting on with her life. She continues to test positive at the moment. Sadly Jet is allergic to much of the medication that works for heartworm and she suffers from mild-moderate fits when she has it. This delicate balance between protecting her during the fits and treating the heartworm is a very difficult one to strike. But in the meantime Jet is loving life in South Wales!
Ronnie is a very old boy and is one of three dogs (the others being Jasper and Lucy) who came from a family in Essex where the lady had sadly died. The lady had an arrangement in place with the Blue Cross that they would care for her dogs in the event of her death. Sadly, despitetesting negative for Brucella Canis, the Blue Cross stated they were unable to care for Ronnie orany of her dogs because one of them (Jasper) had tested positive. The lady's family were not in a position to offer a home to the dogs either, and so they asked for help on Facebook.
We saw the cry for help and quickly mobilised some volunteers, Ian and Alex, to go and get the dogs and bring them to safety.
Ronnie has gone into long term foster with Joan. He's very settled there and enjoys pottering around with his new mum. He's a happy boy who likes his toys. Recently diagnosed with a heart murmur, Ronnie is now on Cardisure to regulate his heart properly.
Lucy was one of Ronnie's family when they lived in Essex. Originally from Romania she is a feisty little 10 year old girl! She was at Forest Dog Rescue for a while and then Fred and his wife offered to foster her on a long term basis, after we put a call out on Facebook to find her a family. She's been there for about a month now and is doing really well, but Lucy has ongoing skin issues and needs regular medication to help with that.
Jasper is the third of the dogs rejected by the Blue Cross. He is originally from Romania. He's a big lad, aged 10 and suffers from arthritis, particularly in his back legs. Jasper is taking YouMove and a collagen supplement and occasionally needs Loxicom to help manage inflammation and stiffness in his joints. Jasper is due to go into long term foster care with Mark and his son in Worcestershire in June 2025. We really hope that the placement works out for him!
Dixie came to the UK from Romania about 3 years ago and within a few days we knew something was very wrong. He was only a puppy but he wasn't thriving and growing properly. He went into long term foster care in Worcestershire with Rich and his partner. After a lot of tests, he was diagnosed with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency). This is a very serious long term condition and without his medication, Dixie will die. He has to have digestive enzymes with his food every day to help with absorption. This is a life-long requirement for him. Dixie lives with two other dogs and has a fantastic time walking with them (two hounds) as they all need a lot of exercise!
Clover came to the UK from Romania. She used to live free in the village where Stella (an AmiciiRomania Volunteer) lives, where she enjoyed hanging out with the school kids in the morningswhen the school bus arrived. Sadly, one day the school bus ran over her back paw and she ended up with a life changing injury, and so Stella and her family rescued her and took her into their care.
Clover's journey in the UK wasn't easy either, sadly. She went into foster twice and for various reasons was handed back. She was then adopted but had been allowed to gain an enormousamount of weight and was more or less immobile. Thankfully, we found out about her health and so we took her back into our care as a welfare case.
Joan (who fosters Ronnie mentioned above) worked with us for 9 months to help slim Clover down to a healthier weight. Unfortunately, Joan was unable to keep Clover in the long term, but we found a super long-term-foster placement with Rosemary, who Clover now lives with. Wedesperately hope that this is the last move for Clover!
Clover needs regular medication for the neurological pains in her foot and also for her long term skin condition which continues to plague her into her old age.
Cora came to the UK in 2016 and was adopted by Forest Dog Rescue to a couple who loved her dearly. Sadly in 2024, the couple both died and Cora was returned to FDR. She was adopted again and her new dad took her to the vets who asked her to be tested for Brucella Canis. Sadly she tested positive for antibodies. The man didn't feel he could keep her and returned her to the rescue. They immediately contacted us.
Luckily for Cora, a lovely lady called Jane and her husband had recently lost their dog and offered to help her. She now lives very happily with them in Worcestershire and enjoys holidays in their caravan to Devon and long walks by the river. She is fit, healthy and happy! Cora doesn't need ongoing medication at the moment but does require occasional trips to the vet for routine care.
Carrie came to the UK from Romania in 2023 with her sister. They were in kennels for a long time with little or no interest. Sadly Carrie ruptured her cruciate ligament and had to have surgery. Our wonderful volunteers Kev, Annette and Tegan and Martin, offered to help Carrie during her recovery and looked after her at home. Sadly, last year, Carrie ruptured the other cruciate ligament and had to have that one operated on. Sadly Carrie is a challenging dog from a behavioural perspective and is not yet ready for permanent re-homing.
Carrie is now in long term foster and lives between two houses: Annette and Kev's home and Tegan and Martin's home. This unusual arrangement seems to work well for everyone and allows planning ahead for holidays etc. At the moment Carrie doesn't require anything other than routine care. But we haven't paid off her surgery bill completely yet, so we have included her in this fundraiser for that reason. She is a very lucky girl indeed.
