Story
LUSU introduced a range of cost-of-living support for students including the successful LUSU Pantry. The Pantry is a registered foodbank on campus.
Students are struggling and have been for years as maintenance loans have not gone up with inflation. We hear heart-breaking stories each week of students struggling, and we want to be there for absolutely all of them - meeting them with the compassion and dignity they deserve.
We have managed to free up small amounts of limited Union charity funds to cover the pantry costs at key times throughout the beginning of first term, but we're always aware that this was not sustainable or a long-term solution. The pantry is also receiving financial support from Lancaster University.
“Students are the future of the economy. If we can’t eat, we can’t study. If we can’t afford our rent, we can’t live here.” – Cerys Evans, LUSU President.
