'Growing in Friendship' research project

Help support our applied research project - exploring, communicating and extending the impact of Lyn's House, the Cambridge Friendship Trust's mixed-ability community of friendship.

The Cambridge Friendship Trust operates as 'Lyn’s House': a transformational community of friendship amongst people with, and people without, intellectual disabilities. We are an ecumenical Christian community, open to anyone who wants to belong.

Story

The Lyn's House community

Lyn’s House is an unusual space where people with and people without learning disabilities can experience and help build community that’s centred on mutual welcome and friendship rather than care provision

The impact of Lyn's House

People who belong to Lyn’s House, and people who know us, often say how important it is that communities like Lyn’s House exist, and talk about the transforming potential of bringing people together like this - for everyone involved.

I've been touched by the beauty of Lyn’s House in a way that makes me yearn for all of reality to participate in it.

I can be myself here

The project

We think the transformative potential of Lyn's House is worth exploring and sharing.

‘Growing in Friendship’ will do this by

• explore in detail how people experience Lyn’s House

• look at the core practices which make Lyn’s House what it is

• share what we learn with others

• develop practical resources based on the Lyn's House model for use in other settings

Members of the community are actively involved in the project: helping run it as well as taking part in it.
