Help Make a House a Home

We should all have a place to call home and our new housing project will be a first step. We want to utilise our experience and expertise to contribute to reducing the suffering of those surviving on our streets. Help us turn this house into a home.

Seaview works with people who feel they are living on the edge of society, and who experience little hope for their future. We provide a range of services that meet the needs of the client group, and support them in identifying and attaining their potential and goals.

Story

In temporary accommodation I could write to my mum as I had an address for her to write back to. I have my family back.

Every year Hastings alone sees over 300 people sleeping on the streets, unable to keep warm, clean, dry and fed, and exposed to all weathers, crime, exploitation and increased risk of major health concerns; without privacy, unable to keep illness at bay or heal from often simple wounds, unable to keep warm, get a glass of water, use a toilet or in fact any other basic need that most of us take for granted.

Last year we heard testimonies from rough sleepers who had been abused, kicked and punched while they slept, people hiding in case their abusers found them, people whose belongings had been ransacked, or who were so overwhelmed by the stress of being exposed to everything that comes with rough sleeping they felt like ending it all. This should not be a reality that anyone has to endure.

Having supported people experiencing homelessness for 40 years, alongside feeling passionately that we should all have place to call home, Seaview acutely aware that moving away from homelessness is fraught with challenges, including availability of accommodation and capacity to meet people’s needs, particularly as the housing need is often predicated by trauma, mental ill health, addiction, severe multiple disadvantage and unmet support needs that all too often prevent people from being able to access or maintain housing tenancies.

As a charity that prides itself on improving lives, Seaview wants to utilise our experience and expertise to contribute to reducing the suffering of those surviving on our streets and we need your help to do it.

Being part of the solution

Seaview has been fortunate to purchase a property in St. Leonards to develop into a new home in which will provide 9 rooms where people can live while they explore options for long term accommodation using the amazing support offered by Seaview staff and volunteers.

We feel strongly that we should all have a place to call home and although this is only a first step away from homelessness, it’s a crucial one in people’s journey to find settled accommodation. At Seaview we value each person that uses our services and we understand the importance of providing safe accommodation from where people can reach their potential. Having this housing project could be life changing for those struggling to survive on the streets.

While we cannot mitigate all potential troubles, or undo the trauma, deprivation or multiple disadvantage that all too often predicated homelessness, you could help us provide a safe and supportive accommodation that can significantly improve people’s health and wellbeing.
