Returning to school after the holidays your teacher asks the class to speak about what fun youve had and you have nothing to say. This is often the reality for children living in our refuges in Essex and Hertfordshire. We will have up to 166 children living in our refuges this summer holiday. They are already traumatised, having fled with their mums to escape violence and abuse. We receive no funding to support these children. Their mums have fled with nothing, have often given up their jobs and are having to start again. With the delays of universal credit, in reality, mums are left with little to help make the holidays memorable for their children, often relying on foodbanks for basics.
Thats why I am asking you to give us £1 wherever you can, to help us give our children one fantastic day this summer holidays.
Our target is £3000, which will be used to create happy memories. If we exceed our target we will use the money to ensure children go back to school with a new school uniform and a new school bag packed full of stationery.
We have already secured £5 per child from Kits Out but are still short. Whatever you can donate will make a difference. The more money we raise, the more we can give the children something to remember and talk about when school is back in September.
