Malawi is recorded as one of the poorest countries in Africa where Malaria, the effects of HIV and the need for basic necessities are over-whelming. For over twenty years Destiny Church Wakefield has helped by organising Mission Trips from the UK and raising funds to make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children and families through trusted relationships that Destiny has developed over years.

1. THE DESTINY CENTRE AND LUNCH-BOX

The main Project for the 2019 Team is to help with the final stages of the construction of a simple, multi-function community building in a Malawian village.

By working with trusted and Church connections, this building is now home to Destiny Lunch-Box and Childrens Centre and a Community School - a programme to provide a nutritious meal and basic free education several days a week for about 150 deprived children from the village where there is no local school. Its an exciting project!

Several previous Teams from Destiny began the building process back in 2013 by laying the concrete foundations. Local Malawians alongside other Mission Teams from the UK progressed the building with walls, roof, doors and electrics.

This building will have a lasting legacy for many years and will be a place of hope and encouragement to hundreds of children in the village of Mpanga, near Limbe, Malawi.

The projects this Team will work on include:

Rendering/plastering the outer walls to protect the building and preserve it for the future.

Drilling a bore hole for a well to provide fresh drinking water (there has been no well in this village) so essential for health.

Installing basic plumbing for toilets etc.

Working with the Community School; the Destiny Lunch-Box; and our Connected Churches.

2. DESTINY ORPHANAGE

Our other main project in Malawi is The Destiny Orphanage which previous Mission Teams from Wakefield helped build in Blantyre. 20 children are now cared for here - its a joy to see them enjoying the hope and health this loving home has brought.
