The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest." (Ibn Majah)
Today, you will sit down and break your fast after 16 hours with a hearty meal and many varieties of food and drink.
In Malawi, where the national poverty rate is 50.7%, this is simply not an option. They will start their fast and break their fast with a very simple maize meal.
We provide iftaar meals in 12 villages with a diverse menu containing meat, beans, eggs, vegetables and fruit to ensure they have the strength to fast, work and carry out ibaadat. We also provide a porridge sachet for suhoor. The sharing of the iftaar at the village mosque has become a key to connecting the community to the mosque as they break their fast together and the imaam imparts spiritual advice to nourish the soul too.
