Malham chapel is part of the Skipton and Grassington Methodist Circuit. We are raising money to develop a garden to be used by locals and visitors to Malham.

Story

Some of you may be aware that Malham chapel underwent extensive refurbishment a few years ago, to create an open, welcoming space with a unique floor that allows visitors to engage in a virtual pilgrimage of the area if they wish.

Following on from this, the chapel members now wish to develop a sensory garden in the chapel's small plot of land to its side, offering a quiet space to both residents and visitors. To raise money towards the cost of this Tracey (the minister), Sally (a member of the chapel) and Alice (a member of Malham Environmental group (who are working with the chapel on this project), are undertaking a virtual pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

Between us, we are walking the 480 miles (772km) along the pilgrims' way leading to the shrine of Saint James the great.

We are tracking our progress using The Conqueror app, which will send us postcards as we progress. An added benefit is that the company will plant real trees as we reach significant milestones.

We would love you to sponsor us.

Friday 9th April - Update 1

We are making great progress, having covered 170 miles; 310 miles left. We are 35% through the journey, having visited places including Pamplona, Estella and Hemingway. This morning we are at Atapuerca.

Thank you for your support.

Wednesday 21st April - Update 2

You may have listened to today's recorded reflection where I mentioned that we were 60% of the way along the journey. Well, that was recorded a few days ago and now we only have 31 miles left to do. The miles have flown by especially in the last week as we've passed through more virtual places and have now planted another 'real' tree in recognition of the distance covered. It looks like we will be finished in the next day or two, but there's still time to donate. Thank you again for all the support we've received.

Saturday 24th April - Update 3

With less than 12 miles to go, we have decided to take a pause until Sunday 2nd May when we will all meet (socially distanced of course) and walk the remaining distance together somewhere around Malham. I will post the final update and hopefully a picture upon completion. Thank you again for all your support, we are delighted with the amount raised to date.

Friday 7th May - Update 4

A slightly belated update, but on Sunday 2nd May we completed the journey. The three of us met in Malham and walked 5 miles together to Pikedaw (a challenging 5 miles at that!). We shared in a delicious Tarta de Santiiago made by Alice during the walk. Despite it raining heavily earlier in the day, it stayed dry for us, which was a blessing. So we have arrived (virtually) at Santiago de Compostela and have exceeded our £1000 target. The next stage is to start thinking about ideas for the design. Thank you all for your support.
