Story

Hospice Isle of Man is delighted to announce their latest community event the Hospice Manx Spirit Marathon.

The marathon event has be designed to coincide with this years Covid delayed Virtual London Marathon, with several brave runners taking up the challenge for Hospice to raise valuable funds with every pound raised staying on the Isle of Man. Hospice would like to extend an invite to everyone to participate in this free to attend diversity and inclusivity event, with non-London Marathon runners able to join in to run their own Marathon distances of 3, 5, 13 and even the full 26.2 miles for those that feel brave enough. All are welcome and encouraged to help support this inaugural fundraising event.

Over 9 days in the run up to the run, Hospice Isle of Mans youngest ambassador Dylan Walton will be undertaking his own heroic marathon challenge walking his own marathon distance with him planning to finish the final leg of his incredible journey at the NSC from 9:30am just before the main marathon event begins at 10am. They will be joined by our Islands very own marathon legend, Christian Varley who will be running a full marathon distance. A full marathon distance is approximately 10 laps of the NSC track followed by a run along the Douglas to Peel railway line, to Peel harbour and back to the NSC Christian will be running together with participants and will be happy to help with pacing if required. Alternatively a half marathon distance involves 10 laps with a return run via the railway track to Crosbys Old Church Rd and back. Finally 5 mile and 3 mile runs will additionally be possible at 10 and 6 laps of the NSC track respectfully. The distance of your run doesnt really matter your support is all equally appreciated!

The vast majority of the flat and friendly route is totally off road, with only a very small number of road crossings required which would be navigated at the participants own risk. This will not be a competitive race so the pacing and indeed route is completely flexible with runners able to completely bespoke and adapt it as they see fit.

If youd like to join in part or all of the run, or alternatively spectate and help raise funds for Hospice, please join from 9am 4th October at the NSC track way.
