Having beaten the cancer in 2021, In January this year I was informed the cancer had returned and referred to Weldmar Hospicecare. On Friday 23rd June, whilst I am still able to, I will be taking on the challenge of a wing walk to raise money for this wonderful charity who have looked after me so well.
My Weldmar Community Nurse, Selina, sees me at home and has been a great listener and encourages me to continue to think positively, and embrace what life I have.
I go to the board games club on a Friday afternoon at Weldmar's Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, which is one of their Wellbeing Sessions. It's nice to have company as I live on my own, and feels very reassuring. I can just walk in, I can go and sit in the lovely gardens, and it's nice to think of it as a second home before it might become a necessity.
I thought that if I'm going to raise money for Weldmar, it needs to be something that challenges me. I'm not easily scared but this will definitely test me! If I want people to donate, then I need to put some effort in too, and make it worthwhile! I didn't even know wingwalking was a thing until I saw a much older lady complete one on a television news report, and if she could do it, then so can I.
I think that many people know someone who has needed the services of Weldmar. They do such a wonderful job, and in my own way I would like to help them continue doing what they do so well.
Thank you.
