Mark Kowalski's World Record attempt for AFRIL

Mark Kowalski is attempting to break the record for Most Countries Visited by Bicycle in Seven Days, raising money for local Lewisham refugee and migrant charity, AFRIL.

AFRIL is a dynamic local charity that supports refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to lift themselves out of poverty and rebuild their lives in the heart of our community. Our core projects are: Advice and Advocacy, Food Bank, Rainbow Club Saturday School and Allotment of Refuge.

Story

Mark Kowalski is attempting to break the record for Most Countries Visited by Bicycle in Seven Days - setting off from Vaals, Netherlands on 20 June 2026 at 9am CET. Inspired by his friend Rob Gardiner's 2019 record (17, unsupported) - subsequently beaten by Maurice Mülder (18, supported) and Craig Nilsson (20, unsupported) - the total distance covered is estimated at 2,810km and Mark will ride unsupported.

Mark's record breaking attempt is raising money for AFRIL, a dynamic local charity established in 2006. AFRIL supports asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable migrants with human rights protection needs, to lift themselves out of poverty, assert their rights and rebuild their lives in the heart of our community. AFRIL provide both crisis support to meet immediate need, and longer-term, flexible programmes to tackle the underlying problems that lead people to be in crisis. Taking a rights based approach AFRIL's Casework Service, Foodbank, Supplementary School, Allotment and Members Forum work holistically, empowering people with the tools and support they need to improve their lives and fulfil their potential.
