UPDATE March 2024
We have just marked what would have been Mark’s 69th birthday, so taking this opportunity to say happy birthday to him and a huge thank you to everyone who has supported his fund for Raw Material. It’s never too late to donate, so please do pass this on to friends if you feel moved to do so. The more we raise the more young musicians we can support. Raw Material is currently undergoing a building project which will make their facilities even better, so the project we are working on will likely not begin before 2025. We can celebrate his 70th birthday and the start of the project then.
Rebecca and Kate (and everyone at Raw Material) would like to thank you again for supporting this and for the ongoing offers of help we are receiving. We are sorry if we didn’t thank you all personally. Please keep in touch with us and we will keep you all posted as to how this progresses. Those of you who were anonymous donors, might like to get in touch with us by email or via Raw Material, so we can continue to update you individually
Thank you, Merci,
With love
The Programme
We are working with Raw Material, a Brixton based charity, which nurtures and mentors young musicians, “supporting mental health through industry-standard music and media pathways for diverse communities…”
Quite apart from being his principle drive in life and his livelihood, music helped Mark through his own mental health challenges and he never tired of talking (endlessly) to young people about how they could take the music out of the bedroom and into the world. He could never really believe that he had managed to make his passion his “job” – he constantly reminded himself how lucky he was.
Mark’s Music Fund (Working Title), inspired by Mark’s love of talking to and helping young musicians, will provide practical support and mentoring for young people at Raw. This will include 4 studio days with a professional engineer, one to one music business/creative entrepreneur guidance sessions with an expert and a bursary of £500. We have raised enough money to support at least four young musicians over a period of a year, but we would like to add to the fund.
