Martin’s Ironman Challenge
Story
I will shortly be taking part in a sporting challenge that is often labelled as the ultimate test of human endurance……
an Ironman Triathlon.
A single event split into 3 disciplines:
⁃ 2.4 mile (3.8km) sea swim,
⁃ 112 mile (180.2km) bike ride
⁃ 26.2 mile (42.2km) run.
I would like to use this event to help raise the profile, awareness and much needed funds for the Barking & Dagenham Young Carers Project.
Young carers are kids of school age who have little/no choice but to give up their childhood to care for parents/family members who suffer with poor health or mobility challenges, mental health issues or addiction.
The Young Carers Project is a charitable body offering a support network, counselling and an outlet whereby Young Carers can meet with others in a like situation. The Charity also arranges activities, offering respite and an opportunity for Young Carers just to be kids for a while.
I grew up in Barking and my school friend Sharon Cumberbatch now manages the Young Carers Projects in Barking & Dagenham which is why I am happy to offer my support in helping raise funds for such a truly deserved charity.
