Story
On 12th September 2026, my daughter and I will be taking on the challenge of hiking Snowdon to raise money for Arts Connection Group Masquerade.
This challenge means far more to me than simply reaching the summit. It represents a promise I made to myself during one of the hardest times of my life.
I am autistic, have ADHD, and live with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Before my seizures began in 2021, I lived a very active lifestyle. I loved cycling, regularly covering many miles, and spent countless hours walking and hiking. When the seizures started, everything changed. I had to stop doing the activities I loved while searching for answers about my health.
During one hospital stay, I remember looking out of the window and making myself a promise. I said that one day I would get back out there and climb Snowdon. It wasn't just about climbing a mountain—it was about proving to myself that my condition would not define what I could achieve. Whether I experience a seizure or face other challenges along the way, my goal is to reach the trig point and make it safely back down without giving up.
I'm incredibly proud that this is a joint challenge with my daughter, who will be hiking her first mountain. She is autistic and has experienced anxiety, and Arts Connection Group Masquerade has also been a wonderful source of support for her. Taking on this challenge together makes it even more special, as we're both proving to ourselves that we can overcome obstacles and achieve something amazing.
Arts Connection Group Masquerade has made a huge difference in our lives. As members of the group, we've experienced first-hand how it provides a welcoming, supportive environment where people with disabilities can take part in the performing arts, build confidence, develop creativity, make lasting friendships, and enjoy social interaction free from judgement or prejudice.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help the group continue supporting people like us, giving adults with disabilities the opportunity to express themselves through the creative arts and be part of an inclusive community where everyone belongs.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you are able to give. Your kindness will help Arts Connection Group Masquerade continue changing lives, just as it has changed ours.
Finally, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone helping to organise this event, and to my amazing carers who will be accompanying us on the day. Your encouragement, support and belief in us make this challenge possible.
Thank you all so much for your generosity and support—we truly appreciate every donation and every word of encouragement.
Many thanks,
Martin & Lilly-Mae Morgan
