The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck. OMF surgery is unique in requiring a dual qualification in medicine and dentistry, and is often seen as the bridge between medicine and dentistry, treating conditions that require expertise from both backgrounds.
Common general maxillofacial diseases are also treated such as oral soft issue conditions, temporo-mandibular joint disorders and complex tooth conditions. In recent years, the Da Vinci surgical robot has been employed to treat complex head and neck tumours; introduced to the Trust with ELHT&Me charitable funds.
