The Mayor’s Sleepout for Open Door
On Friday, 13th November 2026, Councillor Matt Fisher, the Mayor of St Albans City & District, and Deputy Mayor Councillor Juliet Voisey will swap their beds for sleeping bags to brave the cold for one night at the St Albans Sleepout.
They are sleeping out to raise vital funds for Open Door, helping ensure no one in our community has to sleep rough this winter.
Why We Need Your Support
Every year, people from across St Albans join together to raise awareness and support the life-changing services provided by Open Door—ranging from emergency shelter and hot meals to long-term support and hope.
While the Open Door night shelter on Bricket Road provides year-round accommodation across 12 ensuite bedrooms, the demand increases in the winter months.
To meet this need, Open Door is partnering with St Albans District Council and Hightown Housing Association for the ninth consecutive year to deliver the Winter Beds Project.
Making a Real Impact
The Winter Beds Project ensures that individuals who would otherwise be sleeping rough have a safe, warm space during the coldest season. Crucially, the Rough Sleeper Outreach Team works closely with guests to help them move on to permanent, secure housing.
Last year’s impact:
21 people accommodated over the winter months (November to April).
9 individuals supported into long-term housing.
7 individuals moved into temporary accommodation.
