Story
The best classroom and the richest cupboard are roofed only by the sky. (Margaret McMilan)
We need your help to keep the farm open for us all
Since 1980, our community farm has brought delight and wonder to generations of families who’ve visited.
But in the face of drastically rising costs, we run the risk of closure without the generous support of the community.
To see us through these challenging times, we need your support to stay open and keep our vital programmes running.
We all want to keep enjoying this beautiful space, visiting the animals and bringing our families here.
We want to cultivate community, nurture life and protect and celebrate the Earth.
We want to share knowledge in the world's best classroom - the outdoors - and empower people to do the same.
Meanwood Farm is a second home to many
At Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, we give green space, skills, care and community to those who need it most – adults with learning disabilities, children and youth at risk of exclusion.
With costs rising drastically and some urgent and essential repairs around the site, we need your help to keep providing a vital space for so many.
Our hope is that you can support us to continue changing lives in Leeds for the better.
Creating the conditions for people of ALL abilities to grow
Adults with learning disabilities and vulnerable young people too often don’t have access to the support and safety they need.
With social care services more stretched than ever before, isolation and mental health problems are only getting worse. One study found that a shocking 54% of people with learning disabilities have a mental health problem.
It's a tragic waste: brilliant people with so much to contribute simply aren’t being given the conditions they need to be safe, well and to grow.
Cultivating community at Meanwood Farm
Our farm is providing a much-needed solution.
Our unique, rich green space is one where people of all abilities can – and do – thrive within a supportive community.
Growing, together. Learning, together.
Over the decades, we’ve been welcoming up to 30 learners every weekday.
We help them to learn new skills, build relationships, contribute meaningfully and connect with animals and nature – all things known to improve mental health and wellbeing.
We're building relationships which empower everyone and challenge ideas around people with disabilities. We value our learners' work, we work collaboratively and build mutual respect.
This is best for me because I know I can talk to anyone and no one treats me like a child." (Michael, learner at MVUF)
The learners all have something to give and contribute in different ways. This environment helps [learner] become the best version of himself with pride." (Parent of learner at MVUF)
Through working on the farm, people find purpose, connection, knowledge and joy.
Sharing knowledge, igniting curiosity
Surrounded by 6 of the most deprived areas (LSOAs) in England, we provide crucial outdoor education and connection to nature for children otherwise unable to access it.
We teach city children, many from low-income households, about nature and science, igniting a curiosity that will last.
We're a space for children to learn, to play, to discover and experience joy.
Help cultivate our community, a rich-mix of ages and abilities
We need to raise £25,000 this summer to continue our life-changing programmes for those in need and keep our farm safe and open for all.
Give generously - give people the conditions they need to grow.
Please give what you can, large or small, and help create a thriving, resilient urban farm for people and planet.
Thank you.
