Its that time of year again, indeed the blessed month of Ramadan!
But what does Ramadan mean to the 1.7 million Muslims who fast during this month?
In essence, Ramadan is all about pausing taking stock and readdressing our relationship with Allah (SWT) as well as combating harmful habits.
But did you know this applies to your relationship with the earth too! However, in Ramadan rather than balance sadly we see excess and particularly in our meat consumption!
British Muslims whilst constituting only 5% of the UK population account for 20% of meat consumption in the UK.
This is not the prophetic diet that was predominately vegetarian and comprised of far less meat than in the average diet of Muslims in Britain today. As Muslims and custodians of the earth, we have a religious obligation to the earth
So, be more like Prophet Muhammad (SAW) eat less meat!
By going meat-free for two weeks, you are not only reducing harmful greenhouse gasses, but you are also saving water, preventing deforestation, protecting animal life, and reaping the reward during the blessed month of Ramadan.
