At St Mary's we regularly get patients and families with a last wish — something they'd love to be able to do before they die. Whenever and wherever we can, we help make it happen.
It isn't always something grand – we've done simple things, like arranging for a father and son to watch a football match on a big screen, and an early wedding anniversary party for a couple, with cakes and gifts for their grandchildren.
By definition, these kinds of events have to be organised quickly. Our friends at Smile 4 Smithy (the Craig Smith Charitable Foundation), have helped us a lot, but we don't usually have time to apply for funding from anywhere else.
Sometimes the patients and their families are happy for us to publicise what we've done – like when we organised a date night for Ray, so he could entertain his wife, Jan. Usually, when we do that, donations come in from our supporters and local businesses afterwards. But taking part in publicity is never a condition of us offering that 'memory-making' service (and it never will be).
So, we wanted to start a fund that we'll use for memory-making. A pot of money that's set aside so that we can act quickly to organise those special moments – like the wedding we helped pull together in under a week for Liam and Vicki.
If you can help us by donating to this page, it would be greatly appreciated.
