We exist to support All Men’s mental health, improve men's quality of life, expand and enrich men’s connections. We facilitate activities that support positive mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing for men. We run weekly groups, sessions and activities, facilitated on a peer to peer basis where men can meet in a safe and friendly place, talk openly, be listened to and feel supported without judgment within a confidential setting from people who are equal to you – your peers. Men from all walks of life come together daily/weekly to share their experiences, their struggles and their advice with one another. In our peer support network and groups you are able to talk to other men who have first-hand lived experience of similar situations. Men can come along, take part, have fun, get fit, meet new people. Or men can simply come along, see what we are about and listen without any pressure to talk. This is absolutely fine too.

Story

‘Men Matter Scotland’ has launched this campaign to encourage us all to chat more openly about our mental health.

The Glasgow based charity who works with hundreds of men every week has launched their ‘What’s Your Battery At?’ Campaign as a way to check in with friends, family and colleagues.

Speaking about the campaign the Chair of Men Matter Scotland Tom Elvin said,

“When you ask someone how they’re doing, the response often tells you very little. But if you ask what their battery is at, the answer tells you so much more.

Within our Hub everyone who enters the building is asked to log what their battery is at. If it’s 30% or below, an immediate intervention is required. For everyone above we recognise that they have come along to maintain and if possible improve their mental wellbeing.

Members are then asked to log their battery level when they leave too. Most of the time its risen significantly. Not only does this speak to the success of our way of working, but it also clearly shows the person that their battery level can change, and change quickly, given the right action, support and environment.”

The Charity based in Glasgow is also hoping to attract some longer term support for 2024, either from companies who have charity partners, or from individuals signing up to make a monthly donation.
