The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileThe Lord Leycester is being fully restored - a good thing too as it is one of Britain's most important and beautiful medieval buildings!
However, just as we thought all was going well, we discovered a rotten roof that needs replacing. Not just any roof but the roof that covers our Great Hall - a medieval banqueting hall with original beams and walls dating from the late 1300s.
For over seven hundred years, travellers, revellers, and those in need within our community have taken sanctuary and pleasure in our Hall. We want to keep that going. We need a roof to keep that going - it's too much to ask our guests to sit under the stars.
The cost of a new roof is £200,000 - a real blow to us as the total project costs had already risen significantly due to inflation and external influences.
Without additional funding we will not be able to reopen in the summer of 2023.
The good people of our town, local government, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and many trusts and foundations have already generously contributed to our project to restore this iconic building in the centre of Warwick but now we want to ask the wider community for support.
We're offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to become part of the Lord Leycester's history by leaving a message on one of the new tiles on the Great Hall roof.
For a minimum donation of £25, you will be given a whole tile to sign, write a message or draw a picture on. Mark a special occasion, remember a loved one or just add your name to our history.
Donate online via justgiving and tell us your message in the comments field and we'll write it for you. We'll also send you a photo of your tile before it goes up!
If you want to donate anonymously but still want a message on a tile, email us at info@lordleycester.com.
Thank you.
