Over the 30 Days of September, Microsoft Ireland will cycle virtually 30,000 km to raise 30,000 Euros for LauraLynn.

We are inspired by the work of LauraLynn, Ireland's only Children's Hospice and wanted to support them by raising money by participating at Microsoft's 30 for 30 for 30 Charity Cycle.

Therefore, Microsoft Ireland employees and family members will cycle virtually and on their own 30.000km+ to support this great cause.

What situation is LauraLynn in currently due to Covid-19 fundraising? What Fundraising is needed this year?

LauraLynn needed to raise 4.6m in 2020, through donations, to meet the 5m cost of operating the Hospice. When the pandemic hit we had initially envisaged a very dramatic decrease in our donations this year. Whilst there is still much uncertainty about what the remainder of the year will look like, we have been very fortunate in how generous our supporters and the public have been in response to our crisis appeals and virtual challenges. Thanks to this, we are confident our fundraising for 2020 will be ok. However, we are very concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on our ability to raise funds in 2021 and beyond.

Our strategic goal of building our sustainable revenue through direct debit acquisition has been severely curtailed. Event-based fundraising will not be possible for a long time to come. Staff fundraising in businesses and corporates is more difficult with working from home the new norm. The full economic impact of COVID-19, and the ability of individuals and businesses to support charities, is yet to be felt and will without doubt be severe. For the remainder of 2020 we must continue our fundraising efforts to strengthen our position going into 2021.

How will money be used?

Funds raised through the Microsoft Cycle will be used to provide family supports such as therapies, counselling and wellbeing checks, as well as much needed short stays at the hospice for families after months of strict cocooning and restrictions. Throughout the pandemic LauraLynn has continued to provide supports to the children and families in need of our services throughout Ireland, and the Microsoft Cycle will help us to continue to be there for them when they need us most.
