MICHAEL'S WING WALK FOR ROTARY

On 3 August 2025, a few days after celebrating my 90th birthday, I'll be gearing up and preparing to take on a Wing Walk. This is to help raise funds for Dawlish Water Rotary Club, of which I am a member.
On 3 August 2025, a few days after celebrating my 90th birthday, I'll be gearing up and preparing to take on a Wing Walk. This is to help raise funds for Dawlish Water Rotary Club, of which I am a member.
I have created this page because I will be taking to the skies and completing a wing walk! I really do want your support.
This is going to be a real aerial adventure, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges that so many people face in the world today. These are challenges that my Rotary Club, through its support of many good causes and charities, local and international, strives to alleviate.
I am now registered blind and can no longer do many of the things I used to. However, I am always happy to help others – and if I can help make things a little easier for those facing life’s most difficult journeys, that’s what I’m going to do.
MY ROTARY STORY
I joined Rotary International on the 1st July 1980, as a member of The Rotary Club of Exeter in District 1170.
During my Exeter membership, I served on Club Council most years from the mid-nineties until transferring to Dawlish Water. During this time, I also served on most committees, either as a member or Chair, including Community, Vocational, Fund raising, International, etc., becoming President in 1996/97, and Secretary for three years to 2012.
As Secretary, in addition to the usual tasks, I produced the monthly programme and the Club Membership Directory Handbook. In 2012, I was also part of the organising committee for the celebration dinner for the Club's 90th Anniversary. In addition, I produced a special edition Celebratory Newsletter, with a photograph of the first and current President on the front cover, which contained a brief history of the Club since its formation in 1922.
For four years during my time as a Rotary member with Exeter, I was the Rotary District Skittles’ Chair, organising the East Devon Skittles League of ten clubs on a home and away basis. The season ended in May, culminating with a Pairs’ Competition, one pair from each team in the League. The winning pair were presented with the 'Ballcock' Trophy, suitably engraved. For me, this was an excellent example of enjoying Rotary with fun and fellowship.
In 2010, I was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) for long service and services to Rotary ( https://www.rotary.org/en/history-paul-harris-fellow-recognition ) from the District Governor, Graham Carey, now a member of Dawlish Water.
Two years later, I was honoured to receive a second PHF for Fund Raising for organising a waste paper collection from members and neighbours, and storing it, before transporting it to the local Council recycling unit. Payment was paid by the ton. The award for this was made during the District Assembly in Plymouth.
In 2019/20, in my 40th year as a Rotarian, I transferred to the Dawlish Water Rotary Club where, this year, I was honoured with an Honorary Membership.
I have really enjoyed my time with Rotary over the years and and would like to do my Wing Walk to raise funds for them as a way of showing my appreciation for all the fun and fellowship I have had in Rotary..
I will be fully funding the cost of the Wing Walk myself, which means that every penny of donation money will go directly to Rotary supported charities.
Thank you for your generous support.
